We are looking for an intermediate accounting professional to join our Lenbrook America Business team to provide their experience and analytical thinking to support our operations.  The ideal applicant would enjoy the opportunity and challenge of a broad range of responsibilities within a fast-paced environment.  They will be a self-motivated, strategic thinker with attention to detail, who can successfully balance multiple tasks and deadlines.  This hands-on position reports directly to the Vice President, Finance & Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction to staff and overall management of the accounting functions of all divisions including all required accounting systems and the audit of their related transactions, cash and working capital management and overallcontrol of inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable and the general ledger.
  • Ensure that adequate internal controls are implemented and operating effectively in respect of all accounting systems
  • Take a leading role in annual budgeting activities of the business and the providing of forecasts in developing the Lenbrook America’s annual Business Plan (including pro forma monthly projected balance sheets, income statements and cash flow schedules) and provide clear direction, guidance and maintenance in measuring the performance of the business against the Business Plan throughout the year to support management’s efforts to achieve and exceed the business’ performance goals, particularly in regard to product margins and operating expenses
  • Closely monitor costs incurred by the business and identify opportunities for cost savings pertaining to product costs, transportation and operating expenses.
  • Overall responsibility for all import duties and federal and state sales tax as applicable to the business and all required regular government filings.
  • Monthly detail reporting of the business’ operating results on a comparative basis with the budget and prior year, including divisional product sales, cost of sales, and margins, balance sheets and income statements prepared on a timely basis, usually within 15 days following month-end.  All necessary analysis and follow-up of discrepancies/comparative differences in product margins and operating expenses including the investigation of senior management queries of operating results.
  • Manage and control divisional product inventories including maintenance of the perpetual inventory records, audit of all inventory movement transactions, data input of all physical inventory counts and the investigation and clearing of count differences and the identification and analysis of slow-moving and obsolete products.
  • Work closely with the CFO in all financial reporting and to ensure that all corporate accounting and reporting guidelines are maintained in accordance with the standards established for all business segments of the Company.
  • Work directly in liaison with the Company’s external auditors at year-end and prepare all year-end audit working papers required by the auditors.
  • Additional related projects and duties as required

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education in Finance or Accounting is required.
  • Completed or working towards an Accounting Designation is required.
  • 3 years relevant financial accounting experience preferably within a Distribution environment.
  • Experience with an ERP system and report generation applications.
  • Strong leadership capability to identify certain tasks that may be suitable for delegation to a small team of subordinates and the skill to guide and monitor the performance of such delegated assignments.
  • A good understanding and knowledge of corporate income tax would be helpful but is not essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently to achieve measurable results.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment,
  • Strong working knowledge with MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Willing to work flexible hours when the business requires.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and work with deadlines on short notice.
